Unconscious Bias Twitter Chat

11 May 2016

Save the Date (Put it in your calendar, as you read this post!): May 24 8 PM EST Twitter chat with Amalia Cochran about unconscious bias.

Dr. Cochran will be hosting a virtual chat on Twitter about unconscious bias using the #AWSChat. For some background on her perspectives on the changing state of women in surgery, read “The times, they are a-changin'”.

Unconscious biases are most likely something all of us have or will experience as women in medicine and surgery. The nuances of being aware of and interacting with unconscious biases can be challenging through our professional lifetimes. The AWS blogging team is excited about the #AWSChat and we hope to see you there!

More information about participating in an AWS Twitter chat:

A Twitter chat is where a group of Twitter users meet at a pre-determined time to discuss a certain topic, using a designated hashtag (#) for each tweet contributed. A host or moderator, in this case @AmaliaCochranMD will pose questions to prompt responses from participants and encourage interaction among the group. Chats typically last an hour.

Imagine a business networking event-but without a dress code and with a keyboard instead of a bar. The same social customs apply-courtesy and respect-and it’s a great way to meet new people with similar interests. There are Twitter chats in almost every industry imaginable.

Joining our tweet chat is easy.
1. Sign up for a Twitter account if you don’t already have one
2. Download any one of the popular Twitter applications available online like Tweetdeck, Hootsuite or Tweetchat
